The World Bank Group is the largest donor of educational services in developing nations, working across 94 countries to promote SDG4the goal for ensuring inclusive and equitable education for all by 2030.

Education is a fundamental right that drives development, reducing poverty through employment, income improvement, ger equality, peace, stability, and innovation. It significantly boosts individual earnings and promotes social equity. Moreover, it acts as a powerful catalyst for climate action by promoting widespread behavioral change and skills development for green transitions.

While global efforts have led to substantial progress in getting children into schools, challenges persist in ensuring that learning outcomes match the investments made in education. The 2018 World Development Report emphasized the importance of making smart financial contributions towards people-centric educational reforms.

The core strategy is addressing the learning crisis and ing Learning Povertya situation where many children cannot read a short age-appropriate text by age 10, resulting in poor future academic performance and inadequate skills for their careers post-school.

In low-income countries, approximately one in two children aged between six and nine are estimated to be living in Learning Poverty. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated this issue, with international reading scores dropping from pre-pandemic levels by over a year of schooling by 2021. This could lead to global GDP growth declining by 0.68 percentage points.

The pandemic's effects are likely long-lasting. Losses in education might translate into US$21 trillion loss in lifetime earnings for the affected individuals, equivalent to 17 of today's global GDPan increase from an earlier estimate of US$17 trillion.

Addressing these challenges requires concerted efforts and innovative solutions across multiple dimensions such as ensuring better financing mechanisms, promoting joint learning through early childhood development policies, and enhancing resilience at schools in fragile environments.

The Roadmap for Safer and Resilient Schools provides strategies and investment plans to tackle the issues of school safety and resilience.
