The Unlocking Pathways initiative reengineer high school education, making it a springboard for students' career success. By bridging traditional educational boundaries with the workforce sector, this joint effort between the U.S. Departments of Education, Labor, and Commerce is designed to equip young people with the tools they need for their future: dual enrollment opportunities, work-based learning experiences, industry-recognized credentials, and personalized career guidance. This initiative promises to unleash new pathways to success that align education with career aspirations and economic needs.
Addressing a Growing Demand
Today's job market increasingly favors postsecondary education and trning beyond high school. By 2027, an estimated 70 of jobs will require further learning or professional qualifications. The United States faces the challenge of boosting its credential-possessing workforce to meet this growing demand. To achieve this goal, we are transforming our educational systems into on-ramps for students pursuing meaningful careers.
A Comprehensive Solution
We propose a holistic approach that integrates dual enrollment programs, work-based learning initiatives, industry credentials, and career advising to prepare young people for rewarding careers. By leveraging American Rescue Plan funds and other federal resources, we m to build robust career pathway systems that empower students with practical skills, real-world experience, and the knowledge required for lifelong success.

Receive personalized career guidance through Career Advising and Navigation informed by labor market analysis, helping them make informed decisions about their future.
Engage in pd work-based learning opportunities that enable problem-solving, skill development, networking, and practical experience in the workplace.
Obtn industry credentials that validate essential skills sought after by employers across various sectors such as biotechnology, cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing, and more.
Accumulate at least 12 college credits through dual enrollment courses that bl academic content with career-relevant learning.
