THE Consultancy and Thland's Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation have joined forces to conduct a nationwide student sustnability survey med at uncovering the far-reaching impacts of sustnability education on university students in Thland. Since 2021, Thland’s Ministry of Higher Education has embarked upon an ambitious program, transforming its universities to prioritize integrating the United Nations' Sustnable Development Goals SDGs into their research and institutional priorities, which is manifested through curriculum reform.
As part of this transformation program, Th universities have demonstrated a forward-thinking approach by emphasizing sustnability across various areas including course offerings, community programs, internships, and work placements. THE Consultancy’s national survey provides valuable insights on the effectiveness of these efforts in shaping students' perspectives on sustnability and enhancing their employability prospects.
The study revealed that university education significantly influences students' environmental consciousness, with 84 agreeing that they have been equipped with essential foundations for sustnable living. Additionally, it was found that 80 are committed to practicing sustnability even if the impact might not be immediately visible. This personal commitment exts beyond academics, leading many students to identify social responsibility as a key skill acquired through their education.
Involvement in community activities promoting sustnability is on the rise among Th university students, with an impressive 86 participating actively in such initiatives. These findings suggest that graduates are poised to become catalysts for change within their communities.
The survey underscores the practical benefits of sustnability-focused education for employability and future-proofing skills. With a growing demand for professionals with sustnable practices knowledge across industries, Th universities have recognized the importance of integrating environmental stewardship into their curriculum.
A significant proportion of students 82 show interest in pursuing entrepreneurship in sustnability-related fields. This not only highlights the potential for innovation but also fosters a dynamic economic environment where students can contribute to sustnable development.
One notable initiative is the University to Tambon U2T project, which many Th universities have begun supporting since 2021. The U2T program provides work experience opportunities in sustnability-related fields within local communities and enhance student employability while benefiting their communities. The survey confirmed that students who engaged in such programs reported increased confidence in their career prospects compared to those who did not.
In summary, these findings suggest that the integration of sustnability education at Th universities goes beyond mere academic enrichment; it is a strategic imperative delivering practical outcomes and fostering purposeful careers for students.
