The Office of Inclusive Excellence OIE at American University is committed to fostering a vibrant community by embracing and integrating diverse perspectives, experiences, backgrounds, and expertise among our student body, faculty, and staff. We strive to build collaboration, innovation, and leadership through dialogue across differences while ensuring compliance with local and federal civil rights laws. Dialogue Across Differences Program

This initiative is designed to promote and exemplify American University's core principles through educational events, campus activities, and learning opportunities that encourage respectful inquiry, critical thinking, active listening, and principled changemaking. It create an inclusive environment where diverse ideas can be shared and valued.

Appointment of New VP for Inclusive Excellence

Dr. Nkenge Friday has been named the new Vice President for Inclusive Excellence at American University. With a distinguished background in diversity leadership and higher education, Dr. Friday specializes in orchestrating university-wide initiatives med at fostering equity, inclusion, and operations that align with the institution's mission.

National Recognition for Commitment to Inclusive Excellence

The OIE is proud to have been recognized with four national awards highlighting our dedication to promoting cultural and inclusive excellence across our campus through student clubs, organizations, and affinity groups.

Student Engagement and Affinity Groups

• Cultural and Inclusion Focused Clubs: 131 clubs and organizations dedicated to celebrating diversity and fostering community among students.

• Faculty Staff Affinity Networks: 8 groups that support inclusivity and professional development for faculty and staff.
