The New Zealand International Education Strategy, launched on August 16, 2022 at the NZIEC KI TUA conference, create a higher-value and resilient educational sector that benefits both domestic and international students. Building upon consultations with industry stakeholders, this strategy is designed to address challenges posed by COVID-19 while guiding recovery efforts for the sector.
The core objectives of the refreshed strategy are as follows:
Providing Excellent Education and Student Experience: This involves ensuring that education quality remns at par or exceeds global standards, focusing on creating an environment where students can thrive both academically and personally.
Ensuring Sustnability and Resilience: With a focus on adapting to new challenges posed by the pandemic, this goal build educational resilience within New Zealand's international education sector. It covers aspects such as visa processing times, providing accurate information for prospective students, and monitoring impacts of immigration policy changes on student visas.
Fostering Global Citizenship: The strategy emphasizes nurturing individuals who not only excel academically but also develop a global perspective, fostering responsible global citizens capable of contributing positively to society.
Some key components of the updated strategy include:
Collaboration with Immigration New Zealand: To ensure that information provided to students about visa processing times and successful applications remns current and accurate.
Monitoring Framework Development: A comprehensive monitoring framework will be developed to track offerings both onshore and offshore, contributing towards building a diversified, high-value sector for international education.
Integration of Te Tiriti o Wtangi The Treaty of Wtangi in Education Provision: Acknowledging the importance of indigenous perspectives within educational opportunities.
Recognition of Diverse Providers: The strategy respects that not all smaller providers are expected to diversify their offerings or expand into new areas as extensively as larger institutions might.
Comprehensive Service and Support Review by Education New Zealand: To identify gaps in existing services and supports for international students, ming at enhancing their overall experience.
