TH AND UK COLLABORATION BOOSTS UNIVERSITIES TO ELEVATE EDUCATIONAL STANDARDS
April 2, 2024 - In a concerted effort to uplift education standards and foster international collaboration, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation MHESI in Thland joined hands with the British Council for an ambitious project med at enhancing Th and UK universities' potential.
The strategic alliance was showcased during a recent press conference held at Pullman Bangkok King Power Hotel, which detled progress made since the initiative's inception in 2021. The partnership, underlined by Danny Whitehead, Director of British Council Thland, Punpermsak Arunee from MHESI’s Strategic Management Mission Group and Suphachitra Chatchawan from Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Science among others, signifies a shared commitment towards addressing global challenges through scientific collaboration between the two nations.
The overarching goal is to establish Thland as a top-tier educational hub by developing its universities' capacity for teaching innovation, cutting-edge research, and robust institutional frameworks. According to Whitehead, this partnership enables Th universities to collaborate with their UK counterparts in tackling challenges such as climate change, health, sustnable agriculture, and peacekeeping.
To achieve these objectives, six key areas were identified:
International Education Network Building: Facilitating transnational educational collaborations between Th and UK institutions.
Funding for Research Partnerships: Securing resources to enable scientists, researchers, academics, and universities from both nations to team up on global issues.
Student Mobility: Encouraging students to study across Thland's and the UK's diverse educational landscapes.
Enhanced Language Proficiency: Strengthening linguistic skills for effective collaboration between Th and British scholars.
Bilateral Synergy: Fostering mutual benefits through reciprocal relationships.
The accomplishments under this partnership since its launch have been quite significant:
Chulalongkorn University Faculty of Medicine partnered with University College London, pioneering postgraduate medical studies focusing on audiology and self-adjustment techniques for the first time in Thland. This collaboration not only attracted international healthcare practitioners to study at Chulalongkorn but also led to advancements in specialized hearing care and self-screening via a smartphone app.
Mahidol University's Faculty of Social Sciences and ities partnered with the University of Reading, successfully launching an International Double Degree Programme in Society Design Development. This initiative incubate change agents equipped with comprehensive knowledge from both Th and British universities.
