PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Bridging Cultures to Defeat COVID-19, a virtual healthcare education initiative spearheaded by SUNY Upstate Medical University, fosters collaboration among undergraduate, graduate, and young adult trnees from the United States, Middle East, and North Africa. This program equip future medical practitioners and researchers with global awareness and cultural competence in addressing contemporary and upcoming global health challenges.
This program offers a comprehensive curriculum encompassing academic conferences, scientific seminars, networking opportunities, professional development workshops, and cultural exchange activities focused on COVID-19 science and medicine. Participants engage directly in real-time or pre-recorded sessions to discuss current research findings and best practices. The international cohort also collaborates virtually through journal clubs, poster preparation, presentation delivery, constructive feedback sharing, and guided exercises for enhancing cultural competence.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
The initiative is open to health sciences students at various stages of their academic journey who are keen on exploring COVID-19 related fields. It includes both traditional academic activities such as seminars and workshops, alongside initiatives designed to foster international understanding, dialogue, and cooperation in tackling global health issues. The program encourages active participation through delivering presentations or posters, and engaging in group projects that require collaboration among trnees from different cultural backgrounds.
AWARDS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Participants who complete the program requirements may have the opportunity to apply for competitive career development awards valued at research or community health initiatives in their home countries subject to meeting specific award criteria. This is contingent on fulfilling all eligibility prerequisites and undergoing necessary approvals.
